The ‘pi stool’ takes its name from the mathematical symbol that it resembles. The subtle curves and splayed leg create a sturdy base for the lightweight woven seat. The Danish paper cord is woven in a traditional style with a simple twist at the gap: a detail borrowed from the classic Hans Wegner Round Chair.
This custom pi stool in bog oak uses 5,000-year-old timber from the Cambridgeshire Fens. The wood was typically regarded as waste material and discarded: however it is now treasured for its beautiful colouring. Adding a black Danish cord seat helps to bring out the deep colouring in the wood.
Details: Bog oak from the Cambridgeshire Fens, black Danish paper cord.
