Carpe Diem by Tanya McCallin

Dawn: a shaft of hazy light through a crack in the blinds, white linen, a stretch, a slither back under the duvet – then the prospect of breakfast: yoghurt, muesli, berry fruits, toast, coffee… Working with porcelain is a risky business, but here it has served to produce a group of objects to celebrate the ritual of breakfast. The clay is white, refined and pure. It has vitrified at this high temperature and has a variety of surface treatments. Some pieces are glazed with clear transparent glazes and some areas are polished to a silky smoothness. They are haptic, functional, quiet and reflective.

Details: Audrey Blackman porcelain (fired to 1280ºc in oxidation).
