Using American walnut from a wind-fallen tree at Kew Gardens in 1987 and English cherry from the New Forest, fallen last year, Byron & Gomez have created a box with mitre and key construction that gently holds a flowing hand-carved spoon. The ritual of drinking coffee is one that helps us pause in the afternoon to gather our thoughts for the rest of the day: this set is made using simple traditional methods of cabinetmaking and spoon carving, creating two beautiful and delicately executed objects that represent how precious this moment is for the artists.
