Mark Mattock - Where Rude Boys Never Think To Look

Landscape photographer and Hole & Corner contributor Mark Mattock has combined a day job working as a designer for influential style magazines and fashion brands with a life-long fascination with nature and our relationship with it.

‘Nature has always been a spiritually safe place for me, it will always uplift me,’ he explains – but he also takes a relativist view in terms of conservationism and how the urban impinges on the rural (‘I think pylons look OK, actually’) – and tends to believe that nature will run its course regardless of us.

Mattock’s childhood in the countryside and his time spent birdwatching – particularly his attempts to spot the secretive, ‘drab’ nightingale – informs Where Rude Boys Never Think To Look (available in hardback), set in Surrey woodland.
