Morning Bowls by Lola Lely

Morning Bowls consists of two vessels set upon an indigo patchwork mat. One is filled with clay ash, the other water. Ash represents the element of fire —the embodiment of energy and light. Water expresses stillness. These opposites are brought together within natural, humble forms.

The bowls are created from a single section of bamboo and shaped by hand, but still in possession of their essential form. These vessels, along with the mat, form the focal point of a morning ritual to mark the beginning of a new day.

Details: Moso bamboo (bowls); clay ash/water (bowl contents); indigo and tea-dyed cotton (stitched mat).
