Listen Weekly 05: Textiles

Listen Weekly 05: Textiles

The first Listen Weekly playlist of April is a ‘coat of many colours’, patching together some of our favourite records relating to textiles…

We’ve aimed to weave as many textiles as we could into our selection of songs this week, including corduroy, canvas, calico, velvet, mohair and lace… With other inclusions relating to spinning, clothing and, of course, a magic carpet we’ve effectively covered all the bases!

Special mentions must go to the fantastic Teleman and Temples, who are signed to our dear friends at Moshi Moshi and Heavenly Recordings respectively. Alongside them, we were able to include one of our all-time favourite records by the heroes that are John Cale and Brian Eno, and this weeks theme provided the opportunity to include Nancy & Lee’s cult classic ‘Some Velvet Morning’… and we firmly believe any playlist featuring Dolly Parton is always a good thing!

The tracklist:

01. Belle & Sebastian – ‘Dress Up In You’

02. Beth Orton – ‘Corduroy Legs’

03. Teleman – ‘Canvas Shoe’

04. Temples – ‘Calico’

05. John Cale & Brian Eno – ‘Spinning Away’

06. Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood – ‘Some Velvet Morning’

07. Dolly Parton – ‘Coat Of Many Colors’

08. Kitty, Daisy & Lewis – ‘Mohair Sam’

09. Elvis Costello & The Attractions – ‘New Lace Sleeves’

10. Roxy Music – ‘Pyjamarama’

11. Billy Paul – ‘Magic Carpet Ride’
