A sketch in time at pioneering store egg

Illustrator Stewart Walton captures a relaxed, inspiring afternoon to launch the new école de curiosités collection…

When we were invited by pioneering egg to attend an afternoon tea party to celebrate the AW18 collection from école de curiosités, we thought we should do something special to cover the event.


After all, egg have always been ones to do things a little differently… see, for instance, our Nest Issue to witness how founder Maureen Doherty planned the design for her unique home/office/shop with architect Jonathan Tuckey.

And so, rather than send a photographer down to the store to capture the exquisite new collection (entitled ‘Vermeer’ and inspired by a short story about the Dutch master), we instead send illustrator Stewart Walton, who captured the relaxed, intimate mood at the store in his own style.


Walton sketched the scene as guests drank gin iced tea and ate madeleines and shortbreads from chef Knomes Mckerl, while designer Hans Ito introduced the collection…
